June 15 to June 30, 2019.

The itinerary is set! See the 'Where We're Going' page for a summary of the itinerary, including pricing. Request the full detailed itinerary via the Contact tab.

Please consider joining us as we explore parts of the Avalon and Bonavista Peninsulas and Terra Nova National Park!

We start with five nights in St John’s. From our base there we will make day trips to photograph Signal Hill, Cape Spear, (North America's most easterly point) and Ferryland Head and the Avalon Colony archaeological site.

A highlight is sure to be a morning cruise on the Molly Bawn in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve area. Also on the itinerary; a driving tour along the coast visiting fishing villages, between St John’s and Harbour Grace.

We will be paying attention to the sky for opportunities of sunrise photography over Signal Hill.

Then it’s on to the Bonavista Peninsula where we will set up our base in the town of Trinity for the next six nights.

Here we have two ‘on the water’ tours planned with Sea of Whales Adventures. Sightings of whales, sea birds, icebergs and other Atlantic Ocean wildlife is our goal.

Other photo spots we plan to visit on the Peninsula include the town of Bonavista and the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse Provincial Historic Sight. Old and New Bonaventure are also on the itinerary, as are the root cellars and puffin colony of Elliston, and a driving tour of the west coast of the Peninsula including stops at Tickle Cove, the Kings Cove Lighthouse and the old quarry at Keels.

And of course, weather permitting, a hike along the world famous Skerwink Trail.

There will be some free time in Trinity to explore the town and do some souvenir shopping, and an evening at the Rising Tide Dinner Theatre is included!

From Trinity it’s on to Charlottetown in the heart of Terra Nova National Park. Three nights there will give us the opportunity to do a little walking/hiking and photography within this beautiful area. Some of the trails we can choose from include the Visitors Centre Heritage Trail, Sandy Pond, Ochre Hill Trail, Goowiddy Path, part of the Coastal Trail and the Campground Trail. We’ll see what the weather gives us and what our energy levels are once we’re there!

Sunsets over Sandy Pond are high on my list! Weather permitting, we have three nights to capture that.

June 29th marks our return to St John’s for one more night before we all depart for home, or perhaps to continue exploring this beautiful area on your own!

We’ll depart from Charlottetown after breakfast, have one more lunch together in St John’s, then there should be some time for you to explore St John’s and pick up those last minute souvenirs!

Don’t forget; A VG Photography Tour is an instructional tour! Barry taught photography for over 36 years at SAITPolytechnic. He has “a million tips and tricks and is willing to share them all.” We’ll start the tour with a Photography Basics Refresher the afternoon of June 15th. That will be followed the next evening with a short seminar covering Landscape Composition. Other days will include ‘in the field’ talks/instruction covering topics including slow shutter speeds and the use of ND filters, Depth of Field and Hyperfocal distance, tips and tricks for Macro Photography and how to shoot from a rocking boat. And of course Barry will be there every day, wandering amongst us, to answer questions, help with set up and make suggestions.

Please Note;

  • Weather is a big factor when it comes to photography and will play a part in what we do and when we do it. Be flexible!

  • Our tours include hikes/walks of several kilometers, possibly over rough or uneven terrain. A certain level of physical fitness is required. If you are unsure, please contact us.
